Riots and Rallies

Riots and Rallies

The differences and effects of the two forms of ‘protest’

Riot
A riot is a form of civil disorder characterized by disorganized groups lashing out in a sudden and intense rash of violence, vandalism or other crime. While individuals may attempt to lead or control a riot, riots are typically chaotic and exhibit herd behavior.

Riots often occur in reaction to a perceived grievance or out of dissent. Historically, riots have occurred due to poor working or living conditions, government oppression, taxation or conscription, conflicts between races or religions, the outcome of a sporting event or frustration with legal channels through which to air grievances.

Riots typically involve vandalism and the destruction of private and public property. The specific property to be targeted varies depending on the cause of the riot and the inclinations of those involved. Targets can include shops, cars, restaurants, state-owned institutions, and religious buildings.

Rallies
A demonstration is a form of non-violent action by groups of people in favor of a political or other cause, normally consisting of walking in a march and a meeting (rally) to hear speakers. Actions such as blockades and sit-ins may also be referred to as demonstrations.

The term has been in use since the mid-19th century, as was the term ‘monster meeting’, which was coined initially with reference to the huge assemblies of protesters inspired by Daniel O’Connell in Ireland. Demonstrations are a form of activism, usually taking the form of a public gathering of people in a rally or walking in a march. At times, more interventionist actions such as blockades and sit-ins have been referred to as demonstrations. Thus, the opinion is demonstrated to be significant by gathering in a crowd associated with that opinion.

Past Social upheavals

The Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 were a series of demonstrations led by students, intellectuals and labour activists in the People’s Republic of China between April 15, 1989 and June 4, 1989. The demonstrations centred on Tiananmen Square in Beijing. Government retaliation was often violent and riots broke out in affected regions. In 2005, the Chinese government admitted to 87,000 demonstrations and riots across China

Result: Remains to be seen as China is still a Communist nation but is embracing western ideologies slowly.

The worst riots in United States history with respect to lives lost took place during the Civil War when immigrant factory workers forcibly resisted the federal government’s military draft, the New York Draft Riots.

The 1992 Los Angeles riots, triggered by the Rodney King Trial were regarded as the worst in recent U.S. history with deaths estimated at 54 people and nearly a billion dollars in damage caused.

tan(007) – The ISO Dated Shell Toes

Published by d dot b under Health, Social

Year/Month/Day, a drag, Adidas

Not to go on a tangent but …

Year/Month/Day
There exists the ISO: The International Standards Organization. There primary role is to place standards for certain processes, services, and products. In the insurance, medical, financial, and educational fields there are thousands of errors that occur due to the misreading and/or misunderstanding of Date fields. For the date fields they can go Year/Month/Day, Day/Month/Year, Month/Day/Year, and with the latter two, you can only really know the format if the Month/Day or Day/Month has a number greater than 12. And every organization has their own date format – why? Could there not be a standard universal agreed upon format that everyone followed? For some, its always a mental game of trying to figure out what the format is, and its just really annoying and unnecessary.

Dragging Feet
In the literal sense. I hate when people at work or the mall or the street are walking and drag their feet on the ground. They make a unique annoying sound due to their lazy limbs not being able to take full steps off the ground. Is it really that hard to take your punk a– feet off the ground and walk properly? These lames, man, you can hear coming a mile down the road as the graze, rub their feet barely off the ground – you know if you had somewhat decent shoes, you would take more pride and conserve the grip on the sole for your shoes. Chumps.

Shell Toe Adidas
This will be quick and sweet. Adidas makes some very simple and clean shoes, I have several pairs that I have accumulated over the years – such as the shell toe (I have at least 3 pairs, all different colors). But why are Adidas shoes designed for the flat-footed individual? Can anyone explain to me the advantages of that? The advantages of designing a shoe that many people do not fit? The natural curvature of the foot is arced and rounded, not flat. I don’t have any more to rant about concerning this; Puma, Nike, Reebok all have shoes that are designed for the foot’s natural arc, and I don’t know of them to have any flat-footed shoes.

The analogue to target

Published by d dot b under Logic

Analogies

An analogy is both the cognitive process of transferring information from a particular subject (the analogue or source) to another particular subject (the target), and a linguistic expression corresponding to such a process. That is the technical term, the logical term is that analogies provide clearer examples of what one is talking about – it provides one with clarity and a universal social example that most can relate to. And often, they can be very funny, witty, and dumb – nonetheless, they provide amusement. So here are some of the witty, dumb, and funny analogies:

The little boat gently drifted across the pond exactly the way a bowling ball wouldn’t.

The plan was simple, like my brother-in-law Phil. But unlike Phil, this plan just might work.

The young fighter had a hungry look, the kind you get from not eating for a while.

From the attic came an unearthly howl. The whole scene had an eerie, surreal quality, like when you’re on vacation in another city and Jeopardy comes on at 7:00 p.m. instead of 7:30.

Long separated by cruel fate, the star-crossed lovers raced across the grassy field toward each other like two freight trains, one having left Cleveland at 6:36 p.m. traveling at 55 mph, the other from Topeka at 4:19 p.m. at a speed of 35 mph.

John and Mary had never met. They were like two hummingbirds who had also never met.

He fell for her like his heart was a mob informant and she was the East River.

Even in his last years, Grandpappy had a mind like a steel trap, only one that had been left out so long, it had rusted shut.

She walked into my office like a centipede with 98 missing legs.

Hope you were able to laugh a bit at this, cause boy did this help pass by time @ work!

Sight to the Motown Sound

Motown Art

Motown played an important role in the racial integration of popular music, as it was the first record label owned by an African American to primarily feature African-American artists who achieved crossover success. In the 1960s, Motown and its soul-based subsidiaries were the most successful proponents of what came to be known as The Motown Sound, a style of soul music with a distinct pop influence.

Motown has owned or distributed releases from more than 45 subsidiaries in varying genres, although it is most famous for its releases in the music genres of rhythm and blues, soul, hip hop and pop. Motown Records left Detroit for Los Angeles in 1972, and remained an independent company until June 28, 1988, when Gordy sold the company to MCA and Boston Ventures (which took over full ownership of Motown in 1991), then to PolyGram in 1994. Now headquartered in New York City, Motown Records is a subsidiary of The Universal Motown/Universal Republic Group, itself a subsidiary of Universal Music Group.

It would be a crazy social music experiment to see if any modern day artist could remake the Motown sound; the only artists that I see that are ‘close’ would be a Chrisette Michelle, Amy Winehouse, or even a Jon Legend.  But I think with R&B in a current stalemate, the people could use some of that classic old soul sound.
